Case Study

Design intent
Effortless for non-technical users, while still delivering the depth and control expected by advanced users.
Simplify complexity
We introduced a stripped-back, minimal interface that prioritizes clarity and ease-of-use, with progressive disclosure of more complex controls. For technical users, we preserved — and enhanced — the robust capabilities that Plume is known for: device-level management, user profiles, access control, network diagnostics, and so on.
Guide with warmth
To balance the technical depth with warmth and approachability, we used expressive illustration and motion at key moments — onboarding, feedback states, and helpful tips — to build trust and guide users without overwhelming them. These visual moments brought emotion into what can often feel like a dry or intimidating space.

Details
Parental control and device management was one of the top priorities for the internal product team.
An important part of the project was to make sure parents would feel in control, and that their children would be safe from digital threats. Making sure parents could easily understand how to set set access levels, create Focus schedules, and quickly freeze or unfreeze internet access as needed.
The result is an MVP that balances simplicity and sophistication — helping Plume empower households to manage not just their connectivity, but their digital lives.
